African Youths Immigration and Jacob Zuma's resignation
Why African youths continuously flee from their continent both legally and illegally is just a matter of understanding how life operates on the continent. Institutions have been created that train youths to graduate and go look for jobs rather than create the jobs.
Political systems designed to eat all the meat and throw away the bones leave the youths with nothing. Government officials steal the states money together with their presidents and go on vacations to Europe, save the money in banks abroad, take sick leaves to Europe and the US, send their children and family members to the best schools abroad etc.
It is worth noting that the African continent is still very unexplored and unexploited in terms of mineral and human resources and some so called first world countries continue to carry out trade with these African nations thus do all they can to keep their presidents and their regimes in power as long as these trade agreements are respected which is why presidents who oppose them like the Thomas Sankara (Mali), Laurent Gbagbo (Ivory Coast), Muammar Gadhafi (Lybia) and Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe) etc have been toppled from power though not leaving out the fact that these presidents too were tyrants with lots of human rights abuses too. Also we have countries like France who have carved out another method to still have a grip on their former colonies as most of these countries continuously lack behind in terms of growth and rather rank top in corrupt and war torn countries.
Another factor is that of currency, which drives youths crazy about working and being paid in euros, pounds or dollars. This is very evident in the fact that most Africans who have left the continent to these first world countries have been able to raise the standard of living for their families, construct good houses and businesses back home for themselves while working either skilled or unskilled jobs in Europe and the United States of America. It is a pity to see forums like the EU-AU joint commission talking about creating lots of jobs on the African continent so as to curb down migrants into Europe instead of trying to see how to topple regimes that are holding the future of these youths hostage. Of course there are benefiting from these regimes so no wonder no one talks about the real problem.
It is very common in Africa for you to walk into a home and find a young man aged 27 still living with his parents because the system has made it so. Those who try to build something for themselves end up merely doing hand to mouth kind of businesses which leads to no progress. So study and work permit visas are continually been sought after by these young people as none of them has the courage to try and change things. But the wind of change is surely blowing on the continent as demonstrated by the resignation of Jacob Zuma which will only continue to blow.
Between 1881 and 1914, Europeans came to scramble for Africa and will it be fair to say African youths are scrambling for Europe now?
